A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum
The Copperstate Dinner Theater At Phoenix Greyhound Park is pleased to announce the opening of the hilarious musical comedy A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum.
Broadway’s greatest farce is light, fast-paced, witty, irreverent and one of the funniest musicals ever written – the perfect escape from life’s troubles. A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To The Forum takes comedy back to its roots, combining situations from time-tested, 2000 year old comedies of Roman playwright Plautus with the infectious energy of classic vaudeville. The result is a non-stop laugh-fest in which a crafty slave struggles to win the hand of a beautiful but slow-witted courtesan for his young master, in exchange for freedom.
A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To The Forum opened in 1962 and ran for 964 performances winner the Tony Award for Best Musical, Best Book of a Musical and Best Actor in a Musical. It has been revived many times on Broadway including the 1998 revival starring Nathan Lane, who also received the Tony Award for Best Actor in a Musical.
A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To The Forum is directed by Peter J. Hill with musical direction by Brian Hall and choreographed by Noel Irick. A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To The Forum stars Ray Arnold, Royce Briggs, Jesse Berger, Marty Berger, Ashleigh Hunt, Terry Gadaire, Shilough Landolfi, Kerry MacDonaugh, Matthew McDonald, Heather McNaughton, George Pollard, Crystal Reed, Frank Sprague and Hill.
